Simple, easy and delicious to make on any Javvarisi payasam is a sweet dish made with sago or tapioca pearls, sweetener, milk, cardamoms, cashews and raisins. It is also used to make javvarisi upma, sabudana khichdi and sabudana vada.

  1. Wash and soak sago overnight. Drain the water and keep aside.
  2. Finely chop onion, capsicum and carrot.
  3. Heat oil in pan. Once oil gets warm, add mustard seeds, jeera and gram dal.
  4. When the dal turns golden colour, add asafoetida, onion and curry leaves.
  5. Add salt as per taste. Cook till onions turn pink.
  6. Add the pepper and a pinch of turmeric.
  7. Add the carrots and capsicum. Cook them for 2-3 mins only so that they remain crunchy.
  8. Finally, add the sago and mix well until it becomes transparent.
  9. Garnish with coriander and mint leaves along with a squeeze of lemon.
